Intensive, 16 week workshop with TVbyGIRLS = COMPLETED
Our first Next Step program, an intensive 16 week workshop for girls who are inspired by the idea of making creative films to share with people around the world, is COMPLETED. Twenty girls (and 6 CORE GIRLS) participated in this intensive program.
The girls worked together to make films and design the pilot for a broadcast television series which will feature exceptional film and video work made by girls. Our first topic, "TVbyGIRLS looks at love."
Watch one of the videos created by four participants visually exploring the theme love: "Love"

Freeze Frame #10

Our first year with Hannah. ............................................Her first collage.............................Hannah the experienced maker.........
Hannah joined us six years ago and has partnered and grown with us through many TVbyGIRLS opportunities. Including: The White House Project, WISE workshops and many other peer mentoring experiences. Having recently departed for her first year of college, we know Hannah will remain an active part of our organization.
When asked what the experience of being a part of TVbyGIRLS has had on her, Hannah wrote these words:
"Six years ago I didn't know how to hold a camera, now, thanks to TVbyGIRLS, Filmmaking is my means of self-expression and my medium for advocacy. Filmmaking connects me to my community, helping me interact with those whose paths I would not have otherwise crossed. Through film, I harness my voice for meaningful issues, giving voice to those on the other side of the camera who are not always heard, the struggling child validated when asked to tell her story, to the Somali immigrant grateful to share her story even though she was without the words to tell it - film has helped me empower others. Through the camera, I find unexpected angles, a different light. I have learned empathy, compassion, and open-mindedness that extend beyond filmmaking.
My work with TVbyGIRLS has helped me embrace diverse perspectives. Our ongoing film collaboration, Undercover, encourages religious pluralism, identifying the commonalities between the three major monotheistic religions and Atheism as we attempt to experience the religions. As a Jewish teen, having the opportunity to wear a Muslim hijab and to see the changes in how strangers interacted with me, was extremely powerful."

Another exciting note:

Of 486 entries received only 80 made the final cut! Congratulations to all the hard working and talented youth creators!
