We teach girls to defuse the power of negative media messages by giving strength to girls’ ideas. In lively, hands-on workshops, girls analyze print and moving media, explore visual metaphors and decode the hidden cultural messages in pictures and sound. 

  We know that helping girls to analyze the power of images and messages around them is not enough. Girls must also be empowered to create images and messages that speak to their own truth and seek solutions to the issues in their lives. Girls need to have a place in the mainstream of our cultural democracy and TV is the most powerful communication tool in our culture.

   TVbyGIRLS workshops are an exciting, hands-on way for girls to explore visual storytelling with the tools of modern media. Media professionals (directors, producers, writers and teachers) work mentoring girls to encourage self-expression, develop research and critical thinking skills, expand their experiences to represent their own and others voices compassionately and honestly.
